Oh well, back online after holding back on internet explorer for security reasons. So lets hope that those chinese gangsters don't hack into our little corner of the wold wide web.
Well, HSV came back from a short winter break and got back into the swing of things with a straight forward 2-0 win over Freiburg. Jansen scored on about 8 minutes with a strong shot which went in the near post. Petric added a second after the break to wrap up the game. In fact 2-0 was a very gentle result for Freiburg who were pretty lame. They seemed to hope to hold out for a 0-0 and when they went 1 goal down didn't respond.
However they did have a golden chance just before half time when Rost and Mathijsen got in a tangle. But the Freiburg player missed and that was just about it.
Its worth mentioning the pitch at the Volkspark. Germany has had some prety harsh weather lately and it showed in the state of the pitch. It looked like the Hamburg Sea Devils American Football team had made a comeback driving Massey Fergusons and JCBs. So its good to see the pitch being re-laid this week. They would have liked to have done it over the winter break but the poor weather put paid to that.
Today it is reported that Ruud Van Nistelrooy is on his way to Hamburg. He has been frozen out at Real Madrid since the arrival of Huntelaar, Ronaldo, Benzema, Kaka etc etc. He was previously of course at Manchester United where he scored a lot of goals and scooped up a few medals. However he has had some serious injuries and he is used to Manchester United/Real Madrid size wages, which is not the norm at parsimonious Hamburg. So we wait and see: is it "paper talk" or is there something to it? And just how much has he to offer these days?
If he can re-capture the form he had at Old Trafford, he'll be a big plus into the squad. But I wonder if its a case of signing a player 5 years too late.
